McDONALD’S RE-OPENS AT 2ND AND COLORADO IN SANTA MONICA
Santa Monica, CA (March 3, 2008) – After two years, McDonald’s at 2nd Street and Colorado re-opens with a new look and features Santa Monica’s first McCafé specialty coffee bar.
Adjacent to the front counter, McCafé serves hot and cold cappuccino, latte and mocha coffee drinks made from a whole bean, dark roast espresso blend made exclusively for McDonald’s. The McCafé espresso blend beans are ground fresh throughout the day. Each specialty coffee is made to order and can be topped off with extras such as whipped cream or a shot of chocolate. McDonald’s regular premium roast coffee can be ordered hot or as iced coffee at the traditional front counter.
To celebrate the Grand Re-opening of McDonald’s at 1540 2nd Street a week of special events is planned beginning Monday, March 10 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Additional activities throughout the week include; half priced specialty coffee, free food with purchase offers, free kids face painting, and the chance to win a motocross bike.
McDonald’s at this location had been closed for over two years while the city of Santa Monica raised the entire block to reconfigure the land and bring 300 new parking spaces to the downtown area. The new McDonald’s will have 30 parking spaces at street level and an additional 11 spaces for McDonald’s customers’ exclusive use. Customers can also utilize all 300 new parking spaces. McDonald’s can be accessed through an entrance on Colorado or by using the parking garage off 2nd street.
“We are thrilled to re-open McDonald’s at this location,” said Nick Lardas, owner/operator. “We know our new look, convenient parking, beach access and the new McCafé will be pleasing to our local customers and tourists alike.” The novel look of the new restaurant was created by local designers Nicolas Stramotas and Rachel Chua of Interior Systems, Inc. The high-tech design includes stainless steel, Italian tile and designer lighting, in an open floor plan with plasma screen televisions, WIFI, and an outdoor patio.
The Lardas family, a longtime Southern California business family, purchased the McDonald’s at this location in July of 1980. This McDonald’s restaurant serves over three-quarters of a million customers each year.
The Lardas family and their McDonald’s restaurants have supported the community by providing jobs, sponsoring project Echo at the local High School and granting funding for a number of local community initiatives. They are active members of the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce.
The Lardas family owns McDonald’s restaurants in Santa Monica, Malibu, Los Angeles and Redondo Beach, and are part of the McDonald’s Operators’ Association of Southern California which is comprised of more than 600 franchised and company-owned restaurants in the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura.
